PLEASE WELCOME THE DELEGATION VISITING FROM SAN CRISTOBOL DE LAS CASAS! On June 21 delegation members from our sister city, San Cristobol de las Casas, will arrive to explore Asheville, Westeren Carolina University, Mars Hill College, and be guests at a number of events. Attending will be Dely Paniagua, the Mayor's representative and Director of Recreation and Culture for the City of San Cristobal Ines Paniagua Solis, sister Co-Chair for Asheville Committee in San Cristobal, and works with Grameen, Inc., for a Mayan Artisan Program Dr. Andreas Fabregas Puig, Rector of Universidad Intercultural de Chiapas (UNICH) Dr. Claudio Sartorello, Director of bi-lingual and Intercultural education at UNICH Hiram Marina, Producer of the production Palenque Rojo (Mr. Marina will not arrive until Tuesday). The group will tour Handmade in America, the Folk Art Center, Warren Wilson College, Curbie Recycling and Mountain BizWorks. Wednesday and Thursday will be spent at Western Carolina University and it's Cherokee Language Program. This discussion will include performing arts and local artisan programs. Friday the group will be at Mars Hill College to reconnect with long time supporters there. The group will be introduced at City Council on Tuesday afternoon, June 22nd by Sarah Delcourt, Chair of the San Cristobol Committee. The group will be hosted at a reception at the home of Carroll and Gwen Hughes Tuesday evening, and be guests at a pot luck dinner at Mr. George Stewart's home on Friday evening. The group will depart Asheville on Saturday, June 26.
DELEGATION VISIT FROM OSOGBO, NIGERIA A HUGE SUCCESS!! The delegates visiting from Osogbo, Nigeria, had an extradordinary visit to Asheville! They were impressed with our Public Works Department, Curbie, MAHEC, Mission Hospital, and, of course, the hospitality of our members! For fun they attended several receptions as well as the Drum Circle downtown on their Friday evening event. See the Osogbo page for details. Greetings Members and Friends of Asheville Sister Cities, Inc. We are delighted to welcome a six member delegation from our sister city of Osogbo, Nigeria! The delegates arrived in Asheville after 1 a.m. Tuesday, after a very long trip from Nigeria. Nevertheless, they were in high spirits and ready to proceed with their visit-after a short nap! On their first day in Asheville, the group toured our Public Works facilities, Curbside Management, MSD facility, met with City Council, and were guests for dinner at the Ritz with the Asheville Black Businessmen's Alliance. Today, Wednesday, May 5, the group will breakfast with the Rotary Club of North Asheville, tour the Buncombe County Health Department, Mission Hospital, the WNC Aids Alliance, and will be honored at a dinner at the YMI Cultural Center. There will be a $15 pp charge for dinner at the door. |
